Canelo Alvarez will once again face another young fighter when he defends his status as undisputed super middleweight champion against Edgar Berlanga on September 14.
The fight will take place in Las Vegas on Mexican Independence Day, a traditional fight date for Canelo.
Canelo, a four-division champion, needed less than 11 months to win all the gold medals in the 168 division. The 34-year-old Mexican boxer is fresh off a win over the hard-hitting Jaime Munguia, with Canelo knocking the 27-year-old down in the fourth round to win on points.
Berlanga signed a multi-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing after starting his career with Top Rank. “The Chosen One” has won 17 fights by knockout and is entering the biggest fight of his young career.
