Cash App customers are eligible for a payout. Here’s how to file a ,500 settlement claim

If you’ve used the Cash App mobile payment service to make money transfers in the past six years, you may be eligible for a $2,500 payout. The proposed $15 million settlement alleges Cash App and its parent company Block failed to take sufficient care to prevent unauthorized access to user accounts.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit allege that Block and Cash App acted negligently when a former Cash App Investing employee accessed account data without permission in 2022 and when an unauthorized user accessed certain Cash App accounts in 2023 using reused phone numbers associated with the accounts.

If you’ve used Cash App in the past six years and your personal information or account was accessed without your consent, or you were the victim of an unauthorized money transfer, you may be eligible for a payout of up to $2,500. Who is eligible to receive a payout under the Cash App settlement agreement?

According to the comparison site, you are eligible to make a claim if you meet any of the following criteria from August 23, 2018 to August 20, 2024:

  • You are a current or former Cash App or Cash App Investing customer and your personal information, Cash App account or Cash App Investing account has been accessed or obtained without your authorization.
  • There have been unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers of funds to or from your account.
  • A problem occurred while troubleshooting a Cash App account or linked financial account.

How much money could I receive in Cash App settlement?

You could seek up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket expenses and $25 per hour to reimburse you for lost time up to three hours if you qualify to participate in the proposed $15 million settlement. Out-of-pocket expenses include the cost of credit monitoring.

You can also make a claim for documented transaction losses. To claim a cash loss or transaction loss, you must provide third-party documentation.

How do I file a claim and what are the filing deadlines?

If you are eligible to receive a payout, you must submit a claim by November 18, 2024. This means you must submit your claim online or mail it in with a postmark by that date.

If you have claims related to multiple Cash App accounts, list all information about your claims on a single claim form.

When will I get my money?

A final hearing to approve the Cash App settlement is scheduled for December 16, 2024. If approved, payments would be made after that date.
