Despite Lord of the rings Despite being one of the most popular and beloved fantasy franchises, one of its stars now claims that he was not paid for his leading role in the first film. Cate Blanchett recently joined Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and he asked her which film she got the biggest paycheck for and guessed that it was Lord of the rings.
Blanchett scoffed, “Are you kidding me? No, nobody got paid for this movie.” She added, “I basically got free sandwiches and got to keep my (elf) ears.” Cohen responded that they probably got some sort of residual payment since the movie did so well, but she said that was before such a thing was common. So that means the actors didn’t get any additional compensation after the movie did well in theaters and elsewhere.

Blanchett later noted, “Women don’t get paid as much as you think.” Blanchett was not the only one to talk about her salary in the film series. In a separate interview Lord of the rings Star Orlando Bloom said he received $175,000 for his involvement in the entire franchise. The franchise has now grossed billions of dollars, yes, billions. The money has likely gone all the way back to the film studio New Line Cinema.

Bloom revealed: “I got nothing. $175,000. Three movies. Listen: That was the greatest gift of my life that they gave me, and you would do it again for half the money.” He is probably referring to the fact that the films launched the careers of many of their stars.
