Chambersburg man denied bail after allegedly shooting man twice at Wayne Avenue hotel

August 20, 2024 – Dozens of charges are being filed against a Chambersburg man following an incident on Tuesday involving a firearm. Chambersburg Police have charged WD Craig Jackson with attempted murder, two counts of attempted attempt to cause substantial bodily harm with extreme indifference, seven counts of reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a firearm by a non-tolerated person and illegal carrying of a firearm without a permit. WD Jackson was denied bail by MDJ Glenn Manns on the grounds that “there are no bail conditions in place to ensure the safety of the victim or the community.”

Just before 2 a.m., officers with the Chambersburg PD were dispatched to a shooting at 1095 Wayne Avenue, where several hotels are located near I-81. When officers arrived, the victim was reportedly found running from the scene with a gunshot wound to the arm and back. The victim, who was later taken for treatment, reportedly stated that “CJ,” later identified by the CPD as WD Craig Jackson, shot him. Jackson was quickly found on foot in the area of Orchard Drive and Cumberland Avenue in the borough.

In total, according to Chambersburg PD, five .40 caliber shell casings were found in the parking lot near a Mercedes-Benz sedan registered to one of Jackson’s co-workers. That co-worker was later interviewed and reportedly told CPD that “if the victim was going to be shot, Jackson would have done it.”

During a daylight search of the area, a .40 caliber handgun was allegedly found in a black shoulder strap at the base of a bush, concealed by a GAP hoodie. Security camera footage prior to the incident allegedly showed Jackson wearing the GAP sweatshirt and shoulder bag. Additionally, two additional .40 caliber shell casings were found near the parking lot.

WD Jackson had already been convicted of simple assault in 2017, which according to the CPD shows that he should not own firearms.

WD Jackson remains behind bars after being denied bail.
