In their final preseason game before the regular season, the Jets and Giants will meet under the lights at MetLife Stadium on Saturday night.
Daniel Jones will try to calm worried fans after a subpar preseason debut. Nine months after undergoing ACL surgery that shortened his 2023 season, Jones threw two interceptions in Saturday’s loss to the Texans. He completed 11 of 18 passing attempts for 138 yards.
Rust is expected to perform, although the pressure on Jones to excel is undeniable, especially after signing a four-year, $160 million contract before last season. Perhaps Jones can use Saturday’s game to get on the right track before the regular season begins.
The pressure is also high for the Jets, who infamously endured the NFL’s longest playoff drought (13 years). And a lot rests on the shoulders of experienced quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who will return in 2023 after an Achilles tendon injury that cost him all but four snaps.
Although Rodgers will not play on Saturday, his weapons can sharpen their skills: Running back Breece Hall and receiver Garrett Wilson appear poised for success for their third year in the NFL.
