BBC Breakfast presenters found themselves in the unexpected spotlight when Luxmy Gopal was caught getting her hair done live on air on Friday.
When the cameras panned into the studio at 5.56am to give a preview of the 6am programme, the presenters were not quite camera-ready. Charlie Stayt, still adjusting his clothes, greeted viewers with: “Good morning and welcome to BBC Breakfast with Luxmy Gopal and Charlie Stayt.”
Meanwhile, Luxmy, who was still getting her hair done by the hairdresser, took it all in her stride and announced: “The headlines today…” just before a report on the US presidential election was broadcast to the audience.
Social media users were quick to share their joy, with one fan writing: “Start your day with the pros at #BBCBreakfast,” reports the Express.
Another commented: “Chaos @BBCBreakfast when they cut to the studio early and @luxmy_g presents the headlines while getting her hair done! Great professionalism.”
However, when it was time to officially start the program a few moments later, both presenters were well prepared and opened the show seamlessly and without any further surprises.
Charlie usually hosts alongside Naga Munchetty, but was joined by Luxmy, who has appeared on the breakfast couch a few times in the past week.
Luxmy brings over a decade of experience and is a familiar face across BBC Look North, but she recently changed roles and took up a permanent position at BBC London News after saying goodbye to her usual team.
Luxmy is a familiar face on BBC Breakfast, often reporting on news bulletins from various locations around the UK. She also fills in as a presenter at weekends and sometimes during the week, deputising for the regular presenters.
