In a new interview with Interview MagazineRoan was asked by Bowen Yang if she would consider becoming an actress to escape the demands of touring and making music.

Roan firmly denied this, revealing that she has been offered leading roles in films before, but has turned them down. “I say this with peace, love and blessings. Actors are fucking crazy,” she said, before explaining that she finds people in the film industry weird. “I find film people absolutely horrible. I’ve been asked in the last few weeks, ‘Do you want the lead role in XYZ?’ and I said, ‘No.'”

She then revealed that she originally started music as a way to “get her foot in the door” for acting, but abandoned the idea of acting when she arrived in Los Angeles. “The industry is really so scary and I have so little control over it. I can release music whenever I want. I don’t have to wait for a casting director to say, ‘It would be great if we cast you and then we’ll set your schedule for the next three months.'”

Chappell Roan then admitted that she would consider a cameo role if it was something “really special and really silly.” She went on to say that she did not want to take on larger roles: “I have training as an actor, but for me that is the most stressful thing in the world. I would rather be arrested… because I know how to navigate prison.”

Most recently, Roan has criticized “weird” and “demanding” fans who have begun displaying “creepy” behavior toward her. In a series of TikTok videos, she said, “I don’t want what the f*** you think you’re entitled to when you see a celebrity. I don’t give a f*** if you think it’s selfish of me to say no when I want a photo or your time or a hug. That’s not normal. That’s weird. It’s weird when people think you know a person just because you see them online or listen to their art. That’s fucking weird. I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior, OK?”

This isn’t the first time Chappell Roan has spoken out against her fans’ erratic behavior during her meteoric rise to fame. Last month, she revealed that she had promised herself she would quit music if “weird shit” started to affect her and her family.

The NME Coverstar released her debut studio album, The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess, last September to critical acclaim. In a four-star review NME described it as “a demonstration of Roan’s bold and brazen pen, in which she juxtaposes searing revelations alongside some deliciously cheeky choruses.”

Since then, she has achieved a number one hit in the UK almost a year after the release of her first album – something which Elton John recently congratulated her on. Roan released the single “Good Luck, Babe!” in April. The song reached number four in the UK and was covered by Sabrina Carpenter on the BBC Live Lounge in June.

Adele also praised the musician last week, calling her “absolutely amazing” during her performance in Munich on August 14. “Chappell Roan is her name, yes?” Adele said. “I heard a song on my birthday recently that I really liked and it was on one of my friends’ playlists. And then on Monday I fell down a rabbit hole. All day long.”

She continued: “She’s spectacular, and it turns out she doesn’t just have one song. She has, let’s say, seven fucking brilliant songs. I think she’s absolutely amazing. I’m really happy for her, but my girlfriend also said she was a little scared. So, do what you gotta do, baby, but you’re phenomenal. Anyway, that’s all I’ve been doing this week: discovering Chappell Roan.”
