Cheap destinations and best times to book cheap flights this fall

If you’ve spent the summer scrolling through everyone else’s stunning vacation photos and the little green envy monster in your chest is starting to go a little wild, don’t worry. There’s still plenty of time to take your own envious trip before the end of 2024. Not only do you have time, but you can potentially save a ton of money by traveling during the slightly cooler months of September, October, and November.

“Every part of the world has its own off-seasons, which generally depend on the weather,” Going’s Travel expert Katy Nastro told Thrillist earlier this year: “However, in many regions, spring (roughly March to April) and fall (roughly September to October) are considered shoulder seasons.”

Not only is it often a cheaper time of year to travel, but flights were generally cheaper in 2024 than in 2023. According to data from FCM Travel and Corporate Traveler, economy flight prices in the U.S. fell an average of 8.8% in April, May, and June. All of this information means that it’s more likely to find cheap international flights right now than last year, and that your dream trip is closer than you previously imagined.

To help you choose your dream overseas destination, we have some data from Trivago that determines which international destinations you can save the most money on this fall.

These are the top five international travel destinations with a particularly low travel budget for autumn:

  • Manila, Philippines
  • Cebu, Philippines
  • Bogota, Colombia
  • Singapore, Singapore
  • Bangkok, Thailand

In each of these locations, travelers can save up to $80 per night compared to other popular spots. Looking for even more travel inspiration?
