If you have plans on Labor Day and want to avoid traffic, it’s best to drive early in the morning or at night, according to a USA TODAY article. During Labor Day weekend, it’s best to drive before noon or after 7 p.m. on Friday and after noon on Saturday. On the way home from your trip, try to leave before noon on Sunday, Sept. 1, before 1 a.m. on Monday or after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to USA TODAY, the worst times to drive are Labor Day weekend

Now that you know when the best times to drive are during the holiday weekend, you may be wondering when the worst times are. According to a statement from Bob Pishue, analyst at INRIX, “Drivers should expect the worst congestion before the holiday weekend as commuters mingle with travelers. Monitoring traffic apps, local news stations and 511 travel information services can help drivers avoid congestion and reduce driver frustration this Labor Day.”

Road congestion is expected on Friday afternoon, early evening and Saturday morning. On the way home, the worst traffic is expected to occur on Sunday afternoon, September 1, from 11am to 8pm, Monday and Tuesday morning.

Which airports are busiest on Labor Day weekend?

According to travel search site Kayak, the five busiest airports over the holiday weekend are Los Angeles (LAX), Boston (BOS), San Francisco (SFO), Newark (EWR) and New York-JFK.
