This year, Labor Day falls on September 2, 2024.

It celebrates the social and economic contributions of American workers and marks the unofficial end of summer.

Americans often celebrate with parades, barbecues, picnics, and various events honoring the working class.

Popular supermarket Meijer is helping Americans celebrate the holiday weekend with special offers and discounts on various barbecue items.

With lower prices than Walmart and Target, Meijer customers can feed their families and friends without breaking the bank.

Savings surplus

No American holiday is complete without hot dogs and hamburgers, and Meijer offers both staples at reasonable prices.

Meijer customers can grab eight Ball Park hot dogs on sale for just $3.39 (down from $3.65).

Target and Walmart are more expensive: there the same hot dogs cost $6.29 and $3.48 respectively.

With Meijer’s inexpensive ground beef, Americans can also make inexpensive burgers.

The grocery store is selling a pound of Angus beef for $5.29 – on sale instead of the original price of $7.29.

I compared Aldi and Walmart grocery prices and found “interesting” differences – but there was a clear winner

Customers who shop at Meijer can enjoy greater savings than at Target or Walmart, as a pound of beef costs $6.99 and $6.92, respectively, at the other retailers.

If you want to enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs, you’ll need buns for both, and Meijer beats Target and Walmart again with its prices on hot dog and hamburger buns at eight each.

Shoppers who want to complement their meals with sides can also save on baked beans.

A 28-ounce can of Bush’s Original Baked Beans is on sale for $1.99 at Meijer, while the same product for Americans costs $2.99 at Target and $2.48 at Walmart.

Plus, condiments are important, and Meijer customers can save a few pennies with the retailer’s 38-ounce ketchup bottle.

At a price of $2.09 or $0.055 per ounce, Americans can inexpensively add sauce to their holiday dishes.

A Target brand ketchup bottle of the same size costs $2.59, or $0.068 per ounce.

A 32-ounce bottle of Great Value tomato ketchup from Walmart costs $1.94, or $0.060 per ounce.

Shoppers can also round out their Labor Day weekend meal with an affordable dessert from Meijer.

The retailer is selling a pack of 20 chocolate chip cookies for $5.99 – or $0.30 per cookie – instead of the original price of $6.79.

Target’s Favorite Day cookies cost $5.99 for 16, or $0.37 per cookie.

Walmart also sells a plate of 32 cookies for $0.37 each.

Shoppers can also snag bargains for Labor Day items at Dollar Tree—the retailer is selling holiday goods at a fraction of Walmart prices.
