Circle Bowl & Entertainment Center opens in Piscataway, NJ

PISCATAWAY – Stelton Lanes, one of Middlesex County’s most famous bowling alleys, has been revived as Circle Bowl & Entertainment Center.

The bowling alley at 1665 Stelton Road is currently open four days a week, Thursday through Sunday, with plans to expand to seven days a week next month.

According to event manager Kaelyn Laib, the business opened in late July and had a grand opening on August 1. According to the Circle Bowl & Entertainment website, it is owned by Keith Dougherty and Shawn Aiello, who has been in the bowling industry for 28 years.

The facility includes a 16-lane bowling alley, a bar, a restaurant, a party room and an arcade. Over 50 redemption entertainment games are planned.

Recently, the Town Council passed an ordinance allowing the use of redemption games. A public hearing on the ordinance is scheduled for September 10.

Like boardwalk arcade games, Redemption games allow players to collect points and exchange them for prizes.

Stelton Lanes, which had been around since the 1960s, closed in the summer of 2020 during the COVID pandemic. The busiest months of the bowling season were the months lost to the COVID shutdown.

The former company offered 26 lanes as well as automated Qubica scoring and an automated bumper system.

Laib said the new Circle Bowl facility has undergone extensive renovations, adding 16 United States Bowling Congress-certified bowling lanes and new flooring.

She said there were plans to set up leagues.

“We plan to make it the new party center,” she said, adding that corporate events are also planned.

The Circle Bowl’s other location in Ledgewood, Morris County, is known as the League House and offers family entertainment, children’s parties and corporate events.

“We liked the location; we liked that it was close to Rutgers and everything,” she said.
