Citizens of the state of Illinois take center stage at the Democratic Party Convention

Organizers of the Democratic National Convention have released a list of keynote speakers for the event, which begins Monday at the United Center in Chicago and features a strong Illinois representation.

In keeping with its venue in the Windy City, the Democratic National Convention, which begins in Chicago on Monday, will have a distinct Illinois flair.

Governor JB Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, former First Lady and Chicago native Michelle Obama, former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who grew up in Park Ridge, will all receive prime speaking slots at the four-day convention at the United Center.

Johnson, who grew up in Elgin and received two degrees from Aurora University, will kick off Monday’s event, which will also feature President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden addressing delegates, organizers announced Sunday. Pritzker will speak Tuesday.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will deliver the vice presidential acceptance speech on Wednesday, and Vice President Kamala Harris, the current Democratic nominee, will deliver her acceptance speech on Thursday.

The days and times of the other speakers have not been announced, but in addition to Clinton and the Obamas, they include: Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, former President Bill Clinton, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Each night’s theme was also announced on Sunday. They are: “For the People” (Monday); “A Bold Vision for America’s Future” (Tuesday); “A Fight for Our Freedoms” (Wednesday); and “For Our Future” (Thursday).

The convention will be broadcast Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
