City of El Paso informs voters about multi-purpose center ahead of November election

The City of El Paso will hold a second public meeting in November to inform the public about the multi-purpose center proposal under review.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Marty Robbins Recreation Center.

The city will hold nine meetings to speak to voters about the timing of the project delay and provide information about how some of the bond money has been spent since it was approved in 2012.

The multi-purpose center was approved by voters in 2012 as part of the Quality of Life bond, with voters approving $180 million to build the MPC.

The El Paso City Council has called an election in which citizens will decide whether or not to cancel the remaining $128 million of the bond.

According to a press release from the city, voters will see the following on the November ballot:

“To generally revoke the City’s authority to spend the remaining $128,455,636

MULTI-PURPOSE PERFORMING ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT COMMITMENT BONDS

The facility will be located in downtown El Paso and was built by

VOTERS IN THE CITY ELECTION OF 6 NOVEMBER 2012, WHICH RESULTED IN THE REPEAL OF THE

OF THE BONDS?”

  • Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 6 p.m. at Beast Urban Park
  • Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. at the Westside Branch Library
  • Monday, September 9, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. at the Valle Bajo Community Center
  • Tuesday, September 10, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. in Hilos de Plata
  • Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 6 p.m. in the Municipal Service Center
  • Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 6 p.m. at the Northgate Transit Center at Metro 31
  • Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. online and in the town hall
