City’s sidewalk repair program provides funds to property owners

CHILLICOTHE – The City of Chillicothe has announced Phase II of the sidewalk repair program.

Well-maintained sidewalks improve the appearance of residential areas and increase property values.

According to Chillicothe Codified Ordinance 903.01, property owners are responsible for the maintenance and repair of faulty or defective sidewalks, curbs and gutters on their property. The Sidewalk Repair Program provides assistance to share the cost of sidewalk maintenance and repair with property owners.

Following the success of last year’s program, the City’s grants have been adjusted to match the available budget. The City will contribute 50% up to $1,000 for sidewalk repairs and 50% up to $2,000 for projects that must include curb and gutter repairs.

Applications must be submitted by September 20th and project approvals will be granted by September 27th.

  • Projects are approved based on the need for repairs.
  • All work must be performed by a private, licensed contractor registered with the City of Chillicothe Building Department. Residents are encouraged to obtain estimates from multiple contractors. Work must be performed in accordance with the City’s standard specifications found in Sections 608 and 609 of the ODOT Construction and Materials Specifications.
  • Removal of trees associated with curb and/or sidewalk repairs is the responsibility of the property owner. Participants must coordinate with the Tree Commission (740-774-1185) to determine tree removal and replacement.
