Civilization 7 is now even better as Firaxis removes an annoying feature

We cover a lot of strategy games at PCGamesN – between Cities Skylines 2, the upcoming Frostpunk 2, updates for Stellaris, Manor Lords and dozens more, it’s been a busy 18 months. And then, despite all that competition and potential new blood, Firaxis confirms Civilization 7 and reminds everyone that, even after 33 years, it’s still at the top of the genre food chain. Civ 6 is excellent; the sequel should be even better. But while we wait for launch, Firaxis has just made its upcoming 4X opus sound even more promising by confirming that one annoying feature is being cut entirely.

The Civilization 7 release date is just around the corner, and the entire strategy game genre is about to be tectonically changed by the return of the greatest series of them all. As Firaxis continues to work on the next Civ, the company is also giving plenty of updates and insight into development and the big changes we can expect. More information on the gameplay and world of Civilization 7 is coming soon, but in the meantime, Firaxis’ new community manager Sarah Engel confirms a small but notable update for Civ 6 that will also carry over into the sequel.

“I wanted to provide a quick update,” Engel writes to the Civ community. “Today the 2K launcher was removed from Civ 6 on Steam, and there are plans to remove it from Epic in the near future. I also confirm that Civ 7 will not use the 2K launcher.”

If your desktop is cluttered with first-party launchers, or you just wish you could skip that little extra step between downloading, booting up, and playing Civilization 7 when it appears, that’s good news – as a certified pedant when it comes to order and organization, anything that reduces digital clutter is a win for me. But that’s not the only good news regarding Civ 7 lately, as the 4X game just received a new launch window.
