To the surprise of many, a few years ago, sports card prices started rising in the market. The most recent example was CJ Stroud of the Houston Texans and his rookie card, which sold for $12,000 at an auction conducted by Goldin.
Stroud, the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, quickly made a name for himself as a rising star in the league last season. The Texans’ rookie quarterback lit up the field with back-to-back 300-yard passing games and a game-winning drive in back-to-back weeks.
The quarterback’s impressive performance has caught the attention of collectors who are actively buying up his rookie cards on platforms like eBay. In the first two months of his NFL career, over 16,000 cards of the Texans star were sold on eBay alone, totaling over $778,000 in sales.
The quarterback’s most valuable cards include a Mosaic One of One Nebula Rookie card that sold for $14,100 after his breakout game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a Mosaic Gold card that brought in $2,650. Additionally, a signed SuperFractor card with a One of One Image Variation from the 2022 Bowman University Football set sold for $3,599.
As Stroud continues to impress on the field, collectors are eager to get their hands on his coveted rookie cards, which are expected to continue to rise in value. The young quarterback’s rise to stardom has been nothing short of meteoric, and his impact on the sports card market is a testament to his exceptional talent.
Houston Texans CJ Stroud’s rookie card auctioned for over $12,000
In addition to the limited edition football cards sold last year, another one caused a stir when it was auctioned off by Goldin recently. In an ad on the auction house’s website, the gem plate containing a Panini Stroud rookie card was sold for an insane price.

Stroud, one of the shooting stars of the 2023 season, was named to the Pro Bowl after throwing for 4,108 yards with 23 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Stroud led Houston to a playoff appearance after the team finished the season with a record of 3-13-1 before signing the former Ohio State playmaker. The limited edition piece bears the serial number “22/24,” the listing states.
The card itself is the 22nd in a print run of 24. In addition, the gem embossing 10 of PSA’s Panini card increased its value and made it more desirable in the market.
Without a doubt, Stroud’s equity is increasing not only on the field but also on the sports card market. If he performs well again in his second season, the Texans QB’s value will definitely skyrocket.
