Claude Wayne DeBerry (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

On Monday, July 29, 2024, at 11:48 am, GOD made the decision to end our loved one’s suffering from complications of cancer and ALS (LOU GEHRING’S DISEASE). Within an hour of a Bible study with his mother, Claude Wayne DeBerry, affectionately known as “Wayne,” passed away peacefully at home with a smile on his face.

Wayne was born on July 19, 1954, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Due to his father’s military career, Wayne had the opportunity to live in several places – Florida, Georgia, Germany and Virginia.

He graduated from Denbigh High School and Thomas Nelson Community College, worked as a machinist and union representative for United Steelworkers Union Local 8888 for Newport News Shipbuilding, and loved jazz and tennis – he was an avid tennis player at the Briarfield Park Tennis Center.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father Claude DeBerry Jr. and his sister Marva Ann Kemper.

Wayne leaves behind his wife Carolyne, son Ki’Shon, mother Leola, sister LaWanda, brothers Keith (Angela) and Tony, grandchildren KeShawn and K’Orie, and many other family and friends who will cherish his memories.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Ivy Baptist Church, 50 Maple Avenue, Newport News, Virginia 23607.
