People in this Cleveland, Ohio neighborhood are angry after an ambulance was dispatched to a woman’s home in Ohio.

For many years, people have complained that the wait time for medical help after calling 9-1-1 in Cleveland is dangerously long. Somehow, according to Fox 8, a 71-year-old woman managed to get an ambulance in just 3 minutes when she called 911 asking for help charging her smartphone.

She told dispatchers she had no power and needed to go to the hospital to charge her phone. She also mentioned that the police refused to give her a ride.

Fox 8’s report points out that EMS is understaffed, which is likely to lead to long wait times for real medical emergencies. In contrast, Cleveland EMS spent nearly an hour caring for this Ohio woman.

The elderly woman told the 911 dispatcher that she was in pain at the end of her call, which prompted the emergency medical response. One can imagine a confused elderly person calling 911 while experiencing a much more serious emergency than she can communicate. However, many people are wondering how she got the paramedics to respond so quickly and stay so long. The elderly woman was not taken to the hospital by paramedics, but Cleveland EMS confirmed that she had no power and was very distraught.
