Clinton Morrison Exclusive: Palace sold Olise cheaply; I’ve already complained to Parish about it!

After two stints at the club and over 300 games, it is safe to assume that Clinton Morrison’s opinion carries weight at Crystal Palace.

With 109 goals in 309 games over seven years as a senior player for Palace, Morrison knows Selhurst Park inside out.

And in conversation with Tribalfootball.comThe former striker admits he complained to Palace chairman Steve Parish about the sale of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich. At £50 million, the midfielder was a bargain for Bayern, according to Morrison.

“There are not many who can replace Michael Olise. I think he is a fantastic player,” says Morrison. “I would have liked to see him in the Premier League, but Bayern Munich have a chance there.”

“I spoke to the chairman the other day and told him I couldn’t believe how stingy he was with the transfer fee!

“I know Olise is going to be a superstar. If you watch him at the Olympics right now, he’s been fantastic for France with his goals and assists.

“He is simply an outstanding footballer, which is why Palace will miss him.”

But what about the step up from Palace to the demands and expectations of Bayern Munich – and as an import player – can Olise handle it?

“One million percent,” Morrison said.

“The guy is full of confidence. The club asked me to give awards at the end of the season. He is just so relaxed, which you can see on the pitch.”

“He plays freely. As long as they let him do what he can and Vincent Kompany looks after him, I think they have a real player in his team.

“The world is at his feet. I believe he can become one of the superstars of world football.”

“I rate him very highly. I think his left foot is a magic wand.

“The only concern I have with him is his injuries. He had a lot of injuries at Crystal Palace but hopefully he stays fit and has a fantastic season for Crystal Palace.”

A few weeks after Olise’s sale, Palace brought in replacement midfielder Ismaila Sarr. The winger arrives from Olympique Marseille, a year after moving to Ligue 1 from Watford.

Due to his connections to Palace, Morrison was able to provide additional insight into Sarr’s signing.

He said: “Palace have, in fairness, been after Ismaila Sarr for years and I know (technical director) Dougie Freedman is a huge admirer of him.

“I think he will be a good signing and hope he can replicate the form we saw at Watford. However, I think it will be very difficult to replace Olise because he is an outstanding individual player.”

“I always knew it would be difficult for Palace to keep him and at the end of the day it’s about money.”

“When a club like Bayern Munich comes along, has the chance to win trophies, play in the Champions League and play with world-class players like Harry Kane, then I think you have to go, right?”
