Coleen Rooney ‘not moving to Plymouth’ as husband Wayne makes ‘home’ confession

Coleen Rooney will reportedly not follow her husband Wayne to Plymouth, but will instead stay with their sons in Cheshire. Championship club Plymouth Argyle announced in May that they had appointed former England captain Wayne Rooney as their new head coach, replacing Ian Foster.

The 38-year-old will play his first game as manager of the Pilgrims tonight when they travel to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday. Despite Devon being dubbed the ‘Monaco of England’, the Mail on Sunday has revealed that Coleen will not be moving in with her husband but will instead stay in Cheshire. The Mail on Sunday said that Coleen will remain in their £20 million mansion in Cheshire along with her four sons Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass.

Plymouth’s away game at Sheffield on Wednesday 11 August will be Rooney’s first professional game in the dugout since he was sacked as Birmingham City manager in January after just 83 days. Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, the former Manchester United captain said the hunger to return as manager is “huge”.

He said: “I had a short break, maybe a week or so, before I took over as manager at DC United and then I had 48 hours before I went to Birmingham City. I had a couple of months before I came here. It was good. I was able to reflect on everything I’ve been through as a manager.”

“I looked at what I did well and what I didn’t do so well. I had the chance to get personal feedback and talked to a lot of different people in the game. That time was really helpful, but the hunger to get back into it was huge.”

“I’m not someone who can sit at home. I have four young children, but I have a desire to be great. I had a really good playing career. I know a lot of former players who were at the top but aren’t ready to venture out there. I’m not like that.

“I want to be a role model for my children and my players. I want to play football. This is what I know and love. Hopefully I can put a smile on the faces of many fans here.”

Rooney was never afraid to travel further afield for work, even moving to Washington when he was appointed head coach of DC United in July 2022. However, Coleen was never a fan of the US capital, as can be seen from text messages to Rebekah Vardy from 2018 that came to light during the Wagatha-Christie feud.

Rebekah messaged Coleen to check on her, to which Coleen replied, “Hi, hope you’re doing well all week. We’re fine thanks but it’s hard being alone. Washington isn’t the best… nice to visit but different to live in.”

She continued: “There’s not much for the kids to do, mostly parking, hardly any soft play and stuff like that. It’s quite far behind the UK, although I never noticed that. But we’ll get used to it (I hope).”
