Comments on injured Miami Dolphins center Mike McDaniel

MIAMI GARDENS – Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel provided an update on center Aaron Brewer’s injury following their preseason loss to the Falcons on Friday night.

Brewer, Miami’s starter, left the team’s last practice early and apparently had his hand examined.

When asked if Brewer’s injury was more short-term or long-term in nature, McDaniel said, “I would say it will change from week to week. So, yeah, we feel good about deciding where he goes.”

Without Brewer, whom Miami signed from the Titans during the offseason, they could be in trouble at the center position.

Miami relies on injured Aaron Brewer as center

It is true that Liam Eichenberg, who could be a starting guard for Miami, played as a starter at center for most of the 2023 season and performed adequately at times.

But Miami doesn’t really have the depth needed in the middle.

Other players on the roster who can play this position are Andrew Meyer and Jack Driscoll.

However, many centers had problems switching between quarterback and center during training camp.

Tua Tagovailoa and Miami Dolphins center work on snapping and exchanges

That’s been a problem for Tua Tagovailoa and re-trained guard Connor Williams in recent years, but they’ve been able to fix it.

The fact that Brewer is now missing reps with Tua is still far from ideal.

“That puts some pressure on said trade,” McDaniel said. “The way I look at it is, most of the time you’re not lucky enough to not have health issues on the offensive line for an entire season, so it’s better to have that scenario now than for the first time in Week 10. You’d prefer not to have it at all, but that’s not always the reality.

“I think some people will have to put in a little more effort to make sure everyone is working in a coordinated way, but that’s something we’re familiar with here. We’ve seen this scenario before, so we’re relying on those representatives and there’s going to be people who have to do some work.”

Miami Dolphins injury news: Isaiah Wynn and Kion Smith

McDaniel was asked if there was any news on expected starting left back Isaiah Wynn.

“There’s no real update right now,” McDaniel said. “I know he’s working hard and diligently, but it’s kind of uncertain and uncertain. I’ll let you guys know when it’s ready to go. And then we’ll see. I’ll visit that on Monday.”

Wynn hasn’t practiced this summer.

During the game, offensive lineman Kion Smith and tight end Tanner Conner had to leave the game due to injuries.

McDaniel was asked about Smith but did not have an update.

“Kion has really made progress in his craft, so we’re confident, but I’ll get an update tomorrow,” McDaniel said.
