The theme park’s technical team told inspectors that the attraction was traveling uphill when operators in the machine room discovered a crack in the sprocket and stopped the ride, according to the DOB.

Several people were rescued from the attraction, but no one was injured, the DOB said.

The DOB stated that it accused Luna Park of two violations: lack of maintenance of the attraction and failure to notify the agency of the incident.

NY1 has contacted Luna Park for comment.

The Cyclone will remain out of service until it is repaired and the DOB has approved it after a new inspection, the agency said.

A city landmark, the popular wooden roller coaster first opened to the public in 1927. The ride reaches 60 miles per hour and is the second steepest wooden roller coaster in the world, according to Luna Park’s website.

Marcie and Jeff Levine had planned to celebrate their 32nd wedding anniversary on the Cyclone.

“We really talked about it. We have to go to the Cyclone and everyone was excited and now we are disappointed,” said Marcie Levine.
