Congress MP Manickam Tagore in dispute over CM Mamata’s remarks

Amid the controversy sparked by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comments, Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Thursday said the BJP will try to divert the issue into cheap politics but we should be aware of it as women’s safety at home and at work is a serious matter.
Speaking to ANI on the BJP-TMC row in West Bengal and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s speech, Congress MP Manickam Tagore said, “We are discussing a very serious issue – women’s safety at home and at work. The Kolkata doctor’s rape has heightened this issue and now everyone is focusing on it. We need to focus on the real issue now. We should not get distracted by cheap politics. We all know that the BJP will try to divert this into cheap politics. We should be careful not to get dragged into diversionary politics. We should focus on women’s safety.”
Reacting to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s remarks, Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday compared her to North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong-Un and said Mamata cannot tolerate her opposition being like him. BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan, on the other hand, strongly criticised Chief Minister Banerjee for her remarks and said the Supreme Court should take note of this “dangerous speech” on its own initiative.
Earlier, responding to the BJP’s 12-hour long call for a ‘Bengal Bandh’, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday at a public meeting in Kolkata alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was using his party to ignite a fire in Bengal over the rape and murder of the doctor in Kolkata. She warned: “If you burn Bengal, other states like Assam, Northeast, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi will also burn and your chair will be overturned.”
“Some people think this is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh; they speak like us and share our culture. But remember, Bangladesh is a different country and India is a different country. Modi Babu is using his party to set fire here. If you burn Bengal, Assam, the Northeast, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi, they too will burn! We will knock over your chair,” Mamata Banerjee said.
In a post on X, the Assam chief minister also attacked Chief Minister Mamata, saying, “Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don’t show us red eyes. Don’t even try to burn India with your politics of failure. It doesn’t become you to speak divisive language.” (ANI)
