Connecticut Democracy Center accepts applications for awards » CBIA

The Connecticut Democracy Center seeks to recognize leaders who, through their civic engagement, are committed to strengthening democracy.

The organization accepts nominations for Connecticut business leaders, community leaders and philanthropists who have demonstrated exemplary civic engagement.

The leaders will be honored at the Connecticut Democracy Center’s awards ceremony on March 13.

This is the second year the organization has hosted the awards ceremony.

The organization was founded in 1998. Since then, it has offered programs that give people the opportunity to be civically engaged in their community.

For students, the organization runs programs such as Kid Governor and Connecticut History Day, and hosts exhibits, workshops and events to bring people together.

Awards

The three awards are designed to highlight individuals whose stories inspire others to bring people together and strengthen communities.

The CTDC Community Leader Award recognizes an individual who is at least 16 years old and has successfully demonstrated leadership qualities in promoting democratic engagement and the role of citizens in a democracy.

The CTDC Award for Business Leaders recognizes a Connecticut-based company that demonstrates its commitment to solving problems that affect the people of Connecticut.

The Mary C. Gawlicki Award for Philanthropic Leadership was founded in memory of Mary Gawlicki, who served on the board of the Connecticut Democracy Center from 2018 to 2023.

The award is given to an individual or organization that supports nonprofit organizations committed to strengthening civic engagement, community and/or democratic institutions in Connecticut.

The organization will accept online nominations until October 20, 2024.
