Cris Collinsworth calls Drake Maye a ‘living legend’ for completing ‘Remarkably Easy P’

The New England Patriots and Washington Commanders played an exhibition match on Sunday night to close out the NFL preseason. Jacoby Brissett, the Patriots’ presumed starting quarterback, was injured and briefly caused concern among an entire fan base before falling for rookie Drake Maye, who played extremely well after taking over. Cris Collinsworth, who himself was given a facelift before the regular season, wasted no time getting involved in a quarterback controversy that may or may not exist.

He then crossed preconceived boundaries of broadcasting by declaring Maye a “living legend” after the North Carolina native managed to complete a short pass despite his shoe falling off.

This was obviously an exaggeration, and Mike Tirico joined in the fun by begging Collinsworth to stop.

To be clear, this is great stuff. Anyone who clings on to one last meaningful game of football before the real thing begins deserves a little reward, and that reward came in the form of an inappropriate reaction to Drake Mayes’ competent play during part of a game against the reserves.
