Care Center hosts the 24th annual Regatta

Now in its 24th year, the Young Parents Regatta is the annual final event of Rowing Strong, Rowing Together – a transformative regional program developed by The Care Center and Mount Holyoke College. The program partners with community boathouses and agencies that support young mothers and has received national recognition for its innovation and impact. Participating teams this year include young mothers from Holyoke, Springfield, Chelsea, New Bedford, Lynn and Hartford. More than 100 spectators and fans are expected to attend.

The Care Center is the oldest and most comprehensive provider of education and services for pregnant and parenting teens and other underserved women. The Care Center offers one-on-one tutoring to complete the HiSet exam, college prep and college courses, an on-site associate degree program, transportation, meals, child care, counseling, and the skills and support needed to transition to higher education. Way Finders receives $285,000 to promote digital equity in Holyoke

HOLYOKE – Way Finders has received a $285,000 grant from the Point32 Foundation, the parent organization of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan, to cover the next three years of digital equity, housing equity and other community programs in Holyoke and Springfield.

The money will be used in part to support digital equity programs in which patient teachers guide people through their first digital experiences, with the goal of creating confident participants in the digital life of their communities. The trainings are more than just job hunting, advocates say, and can also cover access to telehealth, participation in civic life or website navigation for simpler tasks, such as visiting the city website to find out when garbage collection is or filling out a survey.

The funds will also support Way Finders’ Resident Leadership Program, where participants learn what it means to be resident advocates and have the skills, capacity and support to make their community a safe and welcoming place to live.

All Way Finders programs are conducted in English and Spanish. For more information, visit WayFinders.org and click on the “In the Community” link.
