Corpus Christi Medical Center will have a new CEO starting Sunday.

HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division announced that David Irizarry replaces former CEO Eric Evans, who joined HCA Healthcare Sky Ridge Medical Center in Colorado in June.

Irizarry is currently CEO of HCA Healthcare Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, where he launched the neuroendovascular program to expand neuroscience services, worked on partnerships to improve gastroenterology and cardiovascular care in the community, and improved care for cancer patients through navigation services and tumor boards.

He also helped establish a regional graduate medical training program in collaboration with the Rio Grande Regional Hospital and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine.

Irizarry began his career in the medical field in 2002 as a volunteer at Rio Grande Regional Hospital. After graduating from Texas A&M Health Science Center in McAllen, he served as an administrative intern in 2011. He was soon promoted to assistant director of supply chain and then director of supply chain at Parallon. In 2014, Irizarry was named administrator of the Rio Grande Surgery Center. Five years later, he was promoted to chief operating officer.

In March 2022, he was named CEO of Valley Regional Medical Center.

Irizarry will oversee both Valley Regional Medical Center and Corpus Christi Medical Center until a new CEO is named for the former.
