A judge and an attorney have set the next court dates in a nonfatal shooting case. On August 14, D.C. Superior Court Judge Rainey Brandt held a status hearing for Jeremiah Smalls, who is charged with two counts of domestic violence, including intent to kill with a weapon and assault with a dangerous weapon.

According to the U.S. Marshal Service, Smalls refused to leave the bus traveling from the jail to court. As a result, a hearing on DNA evidence was postponed until November 14, 2024, and Judge Brandt decided to continue the trial preparation schedule to handle administrative matters.

The prosecution’s hearing is estimated to last one week, while the defense’s hearing would last one to two days.

The prosecution is expecting eight witnesses, including an expert. The defense can present a maximum of two witnesses without experts.

The judge ordered that all motions must be filed by September 20. Responses from opposing parties are scheduled for October 31. The deadline for expert witness notification has been set for September 30. Evidence and witness lists must be submitted by November 12.

The hearing on the applications is expected to be November 8, 2024.

There are no notifications available for this specific case yet. Please check back later for updates. Thank you.
