Dent repair at a local garage and its impact on future car insurance claims

Will the insurance company give me trouble in the future if I have to report another claim that also involves this committee?

BHPian transmission recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I have a dent/scratch in the center of the door (metal panel) of my car that I would like to have repaired. The damage is cosmetic and does not affect any parts that contribute to structural strength/support.

In my experience, it takes forever for the authorized service center here to get the work done (over a week).

Since this is only cosmetic damage, I’m considering having the dent repaired at local garages, as they can usually complete the job much faster – and the costs involved will most likely not be much more than the filing fee for the insurance claim.

My question now is: If I now have a dent in a metal door panel repaired at a local garage, will I have trouble with the insurance company in the future when I have to make another claim that also involves this panel?

Here is what BHPian Gotham had to say on the matter:

It is quite common to have minor repairs carried out by third parties. An insurance claim would not be a problem as they would not know about it unless the SC Center knew that the repair was carried out externally.

My S-Cross had several minor repairs carried out by third parties and later I had to report a major claim due to the high repair costs. The entire claim settlement process with Lombard went smoothly.

Here is what BHPian HillMan had to say on the matter:

No, it will not cause you any headaches in the future and your NCB will also remain intact, so before any repair, just compare the cost of the processing fees plus the NCB loss at the next insurance renewal with the cost of repairs before making a claim.

Here is what BHPian Cry0gen had to say on the matter:

The insurer can only object to future repairs for that particular component under the same insurance policy if the damage to be repaired was due to repairs by unauthorized workshops. Otherwise, it is not and should not be their problem.
