Derek Jeter still hates his first trading card

Legendary baseball player Derek Jeter is “still not happy” about his first appearance on a trading card.

In conversation with People Speaking at Fanatics Fest about the launch of the Arena Club online marketplace, which focuses on trading cards, Jeter admits that his dispute with his own card stems from his photo. “I didn’t like the picture. I was wearing my high school uniform and I didn’t like the picture.”

After making sure he’s not tarring any of the credit card companies associated with the photo, Jeter then explains that even after all these years, he’s still not a fan of it.

“I’m still not happy when I see it,” he said. He remembered wanting to show his friends, “Look, I’m on a map. But then you say, ‘No, no.'”

Jeter also emphasized the importance of the Arena Club to him. He has a personal connection to sports cards that goes beyond his Really doesn’t like.

“What really touches me is that my parents always collected my first baseball cards and memorabilia,” he said. “And then we had a flood at our house in Michigan, and a lot of it was destroyed.”

Remembering his experience with his baseball cards, he decided to team up with Brian Lee, founder of LegalZoom and The Honest Company, to create the Arena Club. “I thought the idea was incredible,” Jeter said of the marketplace.

Jeter isn’t the only legend unveiling cool stuff at Fanatics Fest. Jay-Z partnered with Fanatics founder and CEO Michael Rubin to open a newly designed 40/40 Club pop-up during the sporting event.

The invitation-only experience, which runs through August 18 at the Javits Center, is a preview of the 40/40 Club’s upcoming return after its Flatiron District location closes in 2022.

Celebrities and sports legends like Tom Brady, Carmelo Anthony, Taylor Rooks, Travis Scott and Quavo came to take a look at the new era of the 40/40 Club.
