Game Notes: Get your caffeine ready: The Detroit Tigers wrap up the first series of their West Coast road trip Thursday night at 9:40 p.m. It’s the third of four late-night starts on this six-game trip.

The Tigers are back in familiar territory on Thursday, with no starting pitcher named and another bullpen-only game scheduled. The Tigers currently have only two full-time rotation members – Tarik Skubal and Keider Montero – and both pitchers have already made starts in this series, so the next three games will likely be left to the bullpen.

So far, the Tigers have used Tyler Holton, Alex Faedo and Beau Brieske as the “openers” for games this year, with the trio making a total of 10 starts in 2024. Recently, Holton has been the preferred opener for AJ Hinch and the Tigers team, and that should come as no surprise.

The left-hander has been in top form of late, being used in a variety of roles from starter to closer. On Tuesday night, he provided the decisive moment in the series opener against the Mariners, striking out Mitch Garver in the ninth inning and extending his streak to 22 innings without a single run.

After completing their game on Thursday night, the Tigers will travel up the coast to begin a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants. The bad news for fans is that the first game will start even later, with first pitch scheduled for 10:15 p.m. After that, however, the two teams will finish the season with two afternoon games.
