Samsung’s new fitness device, the Galaxy Ring, has already fallen into the hands of the iFixit team, which has carried out a first disassembly. The results of the disassembly show considerable difficulties in repair: disassembly renders the device practically unusable.
We know that
As it turns out, disassembling the Galaxy Ring destroys important components and after that it is impossible to reassemble it in working order. This can mean a lot of expense for owners after the warranty expires, as the only option is to buy a new device.
iFixit notes that the internals include standard components such as power management and NFC chips, as well as a wireless charging controller.
The inventors were surprised that Samsung used press connections instead of solder connections for the battery and induction coil. This could be an attempt to reduce production costs. However, disassembling the ring still leads to damage. Perhaps Samsung has special equipment for damage-free disassembly, which explains this design.
