5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Newman brings a ton of offensive power from a team that reached the LHSAA Division III semifinals last season and should be considered a district favorite. St. Charles won the district but will play in Class 4A this season.
Newman and St. Charles have agreed to play against non-district opponents for the next two seasons, beginning in Week 1 of this season and in 2025. The teams will play at Newman’s Michael Lupin Field this season.
South Plaquemines is the only 10-2A team to win a district title last season. The Hurricanes won the 9-2A crown with returning district MVPs Jy’heim Williams on offense and linebacker Alex Phillips on defense, both of whom are seniors.
For Country Day, junior linebacker Trey Dennison is a son of New Orleans Saints senior offensive assistant Rick Dennison, and freshman receiver and defensive back Curtis McAllister is a son of former Saints star and radio analyst Deuce McAllister.
Reed is playing his third season as a college football player. The Olympians played the first two seasons in Class 3A. Cohen will play a full district schedule after the Hornets failed to compete for the district title last season.
