DIY hair mask with five ingredients makes your hair shine

If your hair is looking a little dull and lackluster, but you don’t want to spend money on a conditioner at the salon, using a hair mask at home can work wonders.

From Olaplex to Garnier, there are many different types on the market that promise to moisturize, shine and transform your locks in just one use. And you don’t even have to spend a fortune – hair masks are easy to make at home in the kitchen.

This is proven by beauty expert and author Sarah Jossel, who recently appeared on This Morning and showed viewers how easy it is to make a DIY hair mask at home. However, you have to be careful because a lot can go wrong when washing it out.

The beauty expert appeared on a recent episode of the morning talk show alongside hosts Sian Welby and Craig Doyle to talk all things hair. And if you remember ever trying to make a hair mask at home out of whatever you could find in the kitchen, then you’re probably not alone.

However, there are a few special ingredients that can wonderfully increase the shine of your hair. Sarah made the mixture herself and tested it on Craig’s locks.

For the “old school” protein hair mask, mix an avocado, an egg and a spoonful each of coconut oil, mayonnaise and honey until a thick paste is formed.

Sarah explained: “These are all really good fats, great fatty acids that are essentially great for shine, moisture and smoothness.”

Once it’s all mixed together, all you have to do is apply it to your hair and let the ingredients work their magic – just like Craig did live on air. However, Sarah recommends doing this on a Sunday night when you have nothing planned, as part of your self-care routine, rather than before a night out on the town.

And she also gave a stern warning about rinsing the mask out. She said: “Don’t rinse your hair with hot water afterwards, because that will cook the egg.”

After I posted a clip of the hilarious exchange on Instagram, numerous people wrote in the comments how well this trick actually works.

One person said, “This hair mask works wonders,” while another recalled, “We used to do it like this in the 70s and use beer and vinegar – nothing new…”

A third joked: “I mean, I admire the commitment to the show, Craig.”
