Do Arsenal need to be even better against the “Big Six” next season?

These are Arsenal’s results against the Big Six last season.

Looking at these results, our Gunners deserve credit for not losing to a traditional Big 6 team. Not losing in these big games showed the level Arteta’s team has risen to.

Despite their brilliant performance, they missed the championship title by two points and it was a very close margin that cost them the title.

For next season, the Gunners need to be perfect and therefore do some things differently. Lyon head coach Pierre Sage, whose team lost 2-0 to Arsenal at the weekend, addressed one point that Mikel Arteta and his team need to improve on.

According to Sage, Arsenal should make it their mission to win the big games if they are to finally outsmart Manchester City and taste Premier League glory.

Sage said: “Last year was a big challenge because both teams were on a good run but City made the difference in the end.

“It’s similar to what happened with City and Liverpool before. It’s a league where the teams are very close to each other.

“You have to be very consistent and win the most important games against your opponent.”

Beating the big boys is no easy task, but that’s what champions do – Arsenal need to approach every game like a final to not only avoid defeat, but win. Pundits like Paul Scholes have accused the Gunners of playing for a draw (referring to the 0-0 draw with Manchester City in the final stages of the PL). I think next season is a wonderful chance to prove them wrong.

If Arsenal were able to avoid defeat against the big boys last season, they will surely have the courage to beat them all in the new season. Quality signings such as the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino and a dynamic winger (or top striker) could help with that.

If we hadn’t lost 4 points against the Big Boys, we would have won the title last year. Can Arteta lead Arsenal to even greater success this season?
