Dodgers could snap up star hitter from National League contender in free agency

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in a great position right now, but even they have some holes that could be filled.

Los Angeles has plenty of stars throughout the roster, but the shortstop position has caused the club some problems in recent years. The Dodgers could look to upgrade the position this coming winter, and Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly has linked them to star shortstop Willy Adames of the Milwaukee Brewers.

“Spearheading this special season in Milwaukee was shortstop Willy Adames, but his time with the Brewers may soon be coming to an end,” Kelly said. “With 23 home runs, 86 RBI and an OPS of .787, he should be coveted by free agents this offseason. It’s concerning that he’s -12 Defensive Runs Saved this year, but between 2022 and 2023 he had 17 DRS…

“Will the Brewers make that kind of investment? It’s fair to be skeptical. 20-year-old shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt is still a long way off, but it’s possible that if Adames leaves as a free agent, Milwaukee could move Joey Ortiz from third base to the shortstop position. It could pivot to a veteran at third base in the short term, knowing that No. 7 prospect Brock Wilken could also play a role in 2025. The Dodgers and Boston Red Sox are two teams that could be interested.”

Milwaukee has done surprisingly well this season and is a threat to the Dodgers, who are out of the National League and are battling for a World Series title this year. No matter what happens in the next few months, Adames will be a free agent at the end of the season and could make sense for Los Angeles.
