Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel gives update on injury to starting center Aaron Brewer

Center Aaron Brewer had to leave joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons early on Wednesday due to a hand injury, but the Miami Dolphins do not expect this to affect his long-term availability.

“I would say it depends week to week, so yeah, we have a good feeling about where he’s going,” coach Mike McDaniel said after Friday’s game.

The Dolphins signed Brewer early as a free agent, signing the former Tennessee Titans lineman to a three-year deal as the team’s starting center. Brewer was primarily a left guard early in his professional career and started 17 games at center last season.

Former UTEP center Andrew Meyer was the backup on Miami’s initial 90-man roster, followed by migrant Sean Harlow, who signed with the team last week. Liam Eichenberg, who is listed as the starting right guard, was also seen snapping the ball at practice.

“So it’s better to have that scenario now than to experience it for the first time in Week 10,” McDaniel said. “You’d prefer not to have it at all, but that’s not always the reality. I think some people are going to need a little more effort to make sure everyone is coordinated. But that’s something we’re familiar with here.”

“We’ve been through this scenario before, so we’re relying on those reps, and there’s going to be some guys that have to do some work.”

McDaniel was also asked for an update on Isaiah Wynn, who signed a new one-year deal with the Dolphins but has not been seen since suffering a quadriceps injury in Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Honestly, since I’ve stayed out of the timelines, there’s no real update right now,” McDaniel said. “I know he’s working hard and diligently. That, too, has been kind of uncertain and gray.”

“I’ll let you know when it’s ready. We’ll see. I’ll visit it on Monday.”
