Drake boosts streaming numbers with 3-pack “100 GIGS”

In 2018, Drake rapped on the Scorpio Cut “Sandras Rose”. His latest trio of songs entitled 100 GIGs showed him living out that lyric to the fullest when he recorded major streaming numbers on his debut via Spotify last weekend.

“It’s Up” featuring Young Thug and 21 Savage currently leads the list with over two million streams on the popular platform, marking the top rap debut of the weekend. “Blue Green Red” followed with over a million streams and “Housekeeping Knows” featuring Latto is at just over 900,000 streams.

On the surface, the fact that “Housekeeping Knows” sold under a million copies despite featuring two popular artists might raise concerns about the Toronto superstar’s current status in the music world following his feud with Kendrick Lamar. However, it’s worth noting that these songs were released at midnight on Saturday (August 10) with minimal promotion; fans also had access to them for days via the website 100gigs.org and Drizzy’s secondary Instagram account @plotttttwistttttt.

Drake’s new records are also doing well on the Apple Music charts. Currently, “It’s Up” is at the top of the Top 25 charts for Washington, DC, Houston, Miami, New York City and his hometown of Toronto. “Blue Green Red” isn’t far behind on most charts, and “Housekeeping Knows” is consistently the least popular of the three. It will be interesting to see how the records fare when Billboard releases the next Hot 100 chart.

The five-time Grammy winner presented these tracks to his fans for the first time last Tuesday (August 6) on the website 100gigs.org. In addition to new records, fans were also able to see unreleased footage of him working on projects such as Be careful, if you are reading this, it is too late, Views, Scorpio, Certified Loverboy, Honestly, forget itAnd Your loss.

A video showed him and his team discussing JAY-Z’s contribution to “Talk Up” by Scorpio. Hov was on tour with Beyoncé at the time and they assumed he would need some time before sending ideas for his verse.

“I’m just laying down for about two hours while Hov does his show because I don’t want him to hit me and say, ‘Hey, what do you think about this?’ and I’m not there to respond,” Drake said. “He’s going to get off stage, shower, probably have a drink and then get back together with Guru to write and (record). So that process is going to take two hours.”
