Drake confirms that Serena Williams served as inspiration for hit “Too Good”

Drake has finally confirmed what many fans have suspected: his 2016 hit “Too Good” was inspired by his past romance with tennis icon Serena Williams. The 37-year-old rapper recently shared a previously unreleased video clip on social media in which he talks about the song’s origins with his mother, Sandi Graham.

In the clip, Drake explains: “I’m smoking a few joints, but this is more about me and Serena.” He goes on to say: “It’s funny because when I write songs about women, I also write songs for them. So I know what kind of songs to write.”

The five-time Grammy winner also revealed how he thought about writing “Too Good”: “If I’m going to talk about them, at least I’m going to do them justice by writing them a song that they like. So I know Serena very well and I know she’s going to hear it loud and clear, but she’s not going to hate me for it either, because it’s lighthearted.”

When his mother asks if Serena was dating anyone else at the time, Drake hesitates before answering, “I don’t know, Mom.”

The revelation comes years after Drake and Williams were spotted cozying up in August 2015, sparking rumors of a romance. Shortly after, Williams began dating Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, whom she later married.
