Drake denies alleged ‘14-minute private jet flight’ after backlash

Drake has responded to criticism directed at him for allegedly taking a “14-minute private jet flight” from Toronto to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Last week, Twitter account @CelebJets – which tracks celebrities’ private planes – tweeted that the Canadian rapper’s jet took off from Toronto Pearson Airport and landed at Hamilton International Airport, completing the approximately 61-kilometre journey in 14 minutes.

@CelebJets reported in thread tweets that the flight consumed 1,522 liters of jet fuel and generated four tons of CO2 emissions.

Shortly afterwards, the “God’s Plan” singer was criticized on social media for taking “multiple” short-haul flights between Hamilton and Toronto while “the environment is collapsing.”

According to further tracking by @CelebJets, Drake’s private plane flew from Hamilton to Toronto on July 12; the flight time was 18 minutes.

Amid the backlash against Drake, technology reporter Temur Durrani tweeted: “Canadians complain about climate change and then pay thousands to go to the next Drake concert, all while pretending he’s not flying his private jet from Hamilton to Toronto.”

Now, in an Instagram comment addressed to “anyone interested in the logistics,” Drake has clarified that “nobody is taking that flight.”

He left his comment under an Instagram post by RealTorontoNewz that included a roundup of critical tweets and news reports about celebrities using their private planes for short trips.

His full response was: “For anyone interested in the logistics, the planes are simply taken to the airport where they are stored… nobody takes that flight.”

In addition to Drake, @CelebJets has tracked private jet travel of celebrities such as Kylie Jenner, boyfriend and rapper Travis Scott, Taylor Swift, Steven Spielberg, Tiger Woods and Mark Wahlberg.

Jenner, who became a billionaire in 2019, was also criticized this week for taking a 17-minute private jet flight for a 26-mile journey.

On Friday (July 15), the celebrity posted a black-and-white photo of herself and Scott embracing in front of their two private jets on Instagram, along with the caption: “Do you want to take mine or yours?”

In the comments section below, fans mocked Jenner for her “disgusting” post, with many claiming it seemed “out of touch with the world.”

One user asked, “Why do I have to limit my meat consumption and use paper straws while the 1 percent get to pump tons of carbon into the atmosphere for a day trip to Palm Springs?”

As it later turned out, according to Jenner’s flight route, she was only in the air for three minutes.
