DRAKE JOSEPH DEPAUL – The St. Ignace News

Drake Joseph DePaul, age 14, of Drummond Island, Michigan, passed away far too soon on July 30, 2024 following a boating accident. He was born on April 6, 2010 to Joseph and Kara (Cloudman) DePaul. Drake’s lively spirit, quick wit and thoughtful nature left an indelible impression on all who knew him.

Drake attended DeTour Area Schools and played basketball, golf, baseball, and football for the De-Tour/Cedarville Islanders. He was a member of his middle school’s student council, the downhill ski club, and participated in Quiz Bowl. Drake was very competitive and enjoyed hunting, swimming (first in, last out), boating, tubing, skiing, golfing, gaming, reading, drawing, driving, listening to music, and playing video games late into the night with friends far away. He loved “high quality” chocolate ice cream whenever he had the chance, hanging out with his friends and family, and playing perfectly planned pranks.

At school, Drake was a bright and curious student, known for his inquiring mind and willingness to help others. His teachers and classmates (usually) appreciated his jokes and insightful debates. They admired his positive attitude and genuine interest in making the world a better place.

Drake was a beloved son, grandson, brother, and friend. His infectious laugh and good heart endeared him to everyone he met, and his beautiful smile was contagious. He was an adventurous soul, always eager to explore and learn new things, often with independent stubbornness as his driving force. Drake’s love of life and family was evident in his elaborate party planning, thoughtful gifts, deep loyalty, and fierce protective instincts. He would help his family feel better when they were down or help them complete frustrating tasks. His homemade chocolate desserts, handmade cards, heartfelt apologies or words of comfort, and his presence were the essence of his personality. He was always selflessly there to support his loved ones.

He is cherished by everyone who knew him and he touched countless hearts. His sisters’ friends will miss him as much as his own and he was so grateful to his family and friends in Cedarville for making him feel like one of them.

Drake leaves behind his parents, his sisters Bella and Sophia, the family dog ​​Teddy, his grandparents Gary and Barb Cloudman and Judi Bailey Martin, cherished aunts, uncles and cousins, beloved friends and teammates from Cedarville, DeTour and Drummond Island, and the cherished Drummond Island community.

Drake was preceded in death by his grandfather Charles DePaul and his step-grandfather Roy Martin.

Drake’s life, although short, was filled with love, laughter and joy. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Drake’s family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his vibrant and cheerful spirit and the love he gave so freely.

A celebration of life gathering was held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at the Drummond Island Yacht Haven in the Big Dock Building, 33185 S. Water Street, Drummond Island, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, Drake’s family has set up an account at De-Tour Drummond Community Credit Union to establish a scholarship fund in his memory to honor his generous heart and love of helping others.
