One of our best live betting sites made a big profit on UFC 305 last weekend as Canadian rapper Drake lost a huge bet.
The God’s Plan artist lost $450,000 on a bet on the UFC when Israel Adesanya failed to beat Dricus Du Plessis. Had the bet been successful, it would have paid out $850,000. However, Du Plessis defeated Adesanya by submission in the fourth round.

The Drake Curse
Many fans called this latest failed bet a continuation of the “Drake Curse.”
The Drake Curse applies to any sports team or athlete Drake meets or bets on, and supposedly causes the team or athlete to lose upcoming events.
For example, in 2019, Drake publicly supported the Alabama Crimson Tide, the number one-seeded college football team in the United States. The Crimson Tide lost the College Football Playoff National Championship 44-16 to Clemson, one of the worst defeats in Nick Saban’s time at the helm.
There are examples of the Drake curse being found in the UFC as well. For example, Drake bet $200,000 on Kamaru Usman at UFC 278 in August 2022. Usman was the dominant fighter in the first four rounds before Leon Edwards KO’d the fight with a head kick, nullifying Drake’s bet.
This isn’t even the first time the Drake curse has hit Adesanya. In November 2022, the rapper lost $2 million betting that the former UFC middleweight champion would defeat Alex Pereira.
Although the Drake Curse is a popular joke among sports fans, numerous examples show that the curse does not exist. While Drake lost money on the bet above, he won $1 million by betting that Adesanya would defeat Jared Cannonier at UFC 276 in July 2022.
What happened at UFC 305?
UFC 305 took place in Perth, Australia. Adesanya fought Du Plessis, the current UFC middleweight champion. After landing two consecutive right hooks, Du Plessis choked with a rear naked choke. Adesanya submitted and ended the fight 3 minutes and 38 seconds into the fourth round.
It was the first time in his MMA career that Adesanya was forced to submit, bringing his record to 24 wins and 4 losses. Adesanya has lost three of his last four fights.
