Former North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Drake Maye still has a long way to go before he becomes a starter for the New England Patriots. He only managed one series in his first preseason game. But things are slowly looking up for the number 3 pick.
With the Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles having joint practices, Maye got off to a fast start Tuesday morning. The quarterback was perfect in the first 7-on-7 drills and then impressed for most of the practice.
Although Maye ended the practice by sacking five times in an ugly 11-on-11 drill, it was overall a good day for the quarterback, who is still working with the second team.
The Patriots and Eagles will face off in the next preseason game, giving Maye another chance to improve his chances as a starter. If he continues to practice like this, he could make up a lot of ground.
Drake Maye starts perfectly
Boom.
Drake Maye hits Javon Baker deep down the right sideline and gets a great finish in a 7-on-7 against Eagles CB Avonte Maddox. Great over-the-shoulder grab.
Maye finishes the period 6/6 and hits 6 different receivers.

Maye was reportedly the “inferior quarterback” to Joe Milton for most of training camp.
