Recently I came across a tweet suggesting that the hate towards Drake has gotten out of control, and I completely agree. Whether or not you believe Kendrick Lamar came out on top in their rap battle earlier this year, let’s not pretend that Drake isn’t a force to be reckoned with on the mic or that he doesn’t represent black culture. Whatever the situation, I think this feud is making Drake act differently, and I’m all for it.
After some strange collaborations like “Wah Gwan Delilah,” Drake has been on a roll lately. He recently released amazing singles with Gordo called “Healing” and “Sideways,” along with three other tracks from his hard drive: “Blue Green Red,” “Housekeeper Knows,” and “It’s Up.” Today, on a random Saturday I spent playing ball and scratching butts, Drake surprised his fans with another leak: “Buffalo Freestyle” feat. Benny The Butcher.
“Buffalo Freestyle” sees Drake and Benny The Butcher shine like hell. Over an emotional, somewhat unfinished-sounding beat, Drake drops a lengthy verse that showcases a sharp, fast-paced flow that’s hard to beat. His lyrics touch on topics like keeping his inner circle small, attending power lunches, and navigating the complexities of social media. Even without much effort, Drake delivers pure gold. Benny The Butcher follows suit, adapting to Drake’s flow and delivering powerful lyrics that highlight his influential connections and meetings with the greats. While words can’t fully express how impressive this track is, it’s one you absolutely need to hear for yourself.
What a load of crap, that sounds like Rick Ross is supposed to be in some shit. Oh well.
