Drake says he will take a break from music to focus on health issues

Drake said Friday that he will step away from music for a year or more to focus on his health, particularly recurring stomach problems.

“I probably won’t make music for a while, to be honest,” the Canadian artist said on Table for one personhis radio show on SiriusXM.

“I have to focus on my health first and foremost – and I’ll talk about that soon enough. Nothing crazy, but I just want people to live healthy, and I’ve had the worst problems with my stomach for years.”

The announcement comes on the same day that Drake released his latest album. For all dogs. The rapper from Toronto will also perform two concerts in his hometown on Friday and Saturday.

A representative for entertainment company Live Nation confirmed to CBC News that those shows will go ahead as planned.

The tour section of his website and a Ticketmaster page indicate that some U.S. performances originally scheduled for after Saturday have been postponed.

Drake also said that he has to do other things for the people he made promises to, without elaborating.

“So I have to focus on my health and do everything right. And that’s what I will do,” he said.

“I’m going to lock the door to the studio for a while. I don’t even know what ‘a little bit’ is. Maybe a year or so. Maybe a little longer.”

On Friday morning, he also posted a clip from the radio show on Instagram with the caption, “See you when we see you.”
