Dricus Du Plessis thanks Drake for betting against him at UFC 305

The Drake curse was in full swing on Saturday night at UFC 305 after Drizzy bet a whopping $450,000 on Israel Adesan to beat Dricus Du Plessis in Perth, Australia.

A win would have earned the Canadian rapper $855,000, but that’s beside the point, as Du Plessis walked away with a fourth-round submission victory (see the result here), banishing “The Last Stylebender” from the title fight circuit, in which he had appeared in the last 12 fights over five years.

After the victory, Du Plessis thanked Drake online for his lack of support.

“Again, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU DRAKE,” the middleweight champion wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Drake is now 1/3 on Adesanya. He won $900,000 when Izzy beat Jared Cannoniner in July 2022, but lost heavily on a $2 million bet that Adesanya would defeat Alex Pereira in her first UFC fight. He also placed $500,000 on Adesanya to defeat Sean Strickland, putting him down $2.05 million on his bet on “Stylebender.”

He is not a complete betting poison, as some would have you believe. In early August 2024, a comprehensive analysis of all of Drake’s public bets was carried out. His record: 16-23, which is not great. But after winning around $18 million and losing $11 million, the musician is still ahead by $6.5 million.

It’s also worth remembering that all of these bets are going through Stake, a betting company that Drake is now part-owner of. We doubt he’s even playing with his own money. Most likely he’s getting paid to play and betting with the house’s money. Not a bad job being a rich superstar, right?
