Drivers are frustrated with changes to the I-10 Broadway Curve; here’s how to get around them

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – New changes on I-10 along the Broadway curve are frustrating drivers entering or leaving the East Valley.

The Arizona Department of Transportation just opened collector-distributor (CD) roads to improve traffic flow and reduce lane changes while construction continues on the Broadway Curve Project. However, the CD roads appeared to cause further confusion on Monday.

“Traffic has caused a lot of problems and a lot of it is just confusion about what is open and what isn’t,” said one driver. “It will be nice when it’s all finished, but until then it’s interesting and a nuisance.”

ADOT said if drivers want to get onto US-60, Broadway Road, State Route 143 or 40th Street, they must first get onto CD Road. There are several different entrances to CD Road heading west.

  • Westbound mainline of I-10 just south of Baseline Road.
  • Entrance to CD Road westbound at Baseline Road.
  • Westbound I-10 just south of US 60.
  • Merge onto US 60 westbound to CD Road westbound.
  • Take SR 143 southbound to CD Road westbound.

“Their purpose is to separate traffic entering and exiting the Broadway curve area from traffic on the westbound I-10 mainline,” said ADOT spokeswoman Marceline McMacken.

The Broadway Curve construction project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
