A shocking video of a man smashing a female doctor’s head against a steel scaffold in a hospital has surfaced, raising renewed concerns about the safety of medical staff at their workplace. The alleged incident took place at SVIMS Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, where an intoxicated patient attacked an intern in the emergency room.

The video, which could not be individually verified by News18shows a man grabbing a doctor by the hair and slamming her head against the steel frame of a hospital bed in the emergency room.

A netizen who shared the video on social media and tagged Andhra Pradesh Police said, “Assault on junior doctor in emergency room of SVIMS Tirupati. Just look at the audacity of the man trying to grope the lady doctor in front of everyone. This is exactly why doctors are demanding a central protection law!”

Amid widespread outrage over the alleged murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital who was facing rape or murder, protesting doctors are demanding a central law to protect against such incidents.

The incident at SVIMS Tirupati was captured on CCTV cameras. In the video, the man can be seen grabbing the doctor by her hair and banging her head against the steel frame of a hospital bed. Other doctors immediately come to her aid and overpower the man so that he cannot attack her further.

According to a report by NDTVThe intern wrote to SVIMS Director and Vice Chancellor Dr RV Kumar saying a patient had attacked her in the emergency room. She identified the patient as Bangaru Raju, said there were no security personnel there to help her and demanded measures to ensure safety at the workplace.

“…I was unexpectedly attacked by a patient, Bangaru Raju, who approached me from behind, pulled my hair and started violently hitting my head against the steel bar of a cot,” the report quoted her letter as saying.

She added: “If the patient had been armed with a sharp weapon, the situation could have escalated and had serious consequences.”

According to the report, doctors at the hospital organized a protest following the incident, raising their safety concerns and demanding measures to ensure that they are not harmed while doing their jobs.
