Dutch GP 2024: Race | Visa Cash App RB Formula 1 Team

Daniel Ricciardo #3
Race – Pos. 12

“We didn’t score any points today but I feel much better than yesterday and I’m happier with how the day went. I was frustrated after qualifying because starting from the back didn’t help but today I was able to have a better race as I really felt we had a strong performance. We were in a bit of a battle in the midfield and I think the cars in front of us were a bit quicker, especially Pierre (Gasly), so we probably couldn’t do much more. I’m happy with the overall picture of the race; in terms of pace we pushed hard during the times we had and caught Lance (Stroll) and Nico (Hülkenberg) towards the end of the race. Hopefully we can do even better in Monza to pull everything together from start to finish and qualify better to have an easier Sunday.”

Yuki Tsunoda #22
Race – Pos. 17

“We split the strategy in the garage but this time it didn’t work, especially on my side. We knew it would be 50-50 with two stops but the lap we pitted was too late and the timing was wrong. Using the soft tyre and losing a position at the start was certainly not ideal and then I was just stuck in traffic and always behind dirty air. I finished the race way behind my starting position which was quite frustrating. We certainly could have done better as a team but we can learn from this, improve and work on things for the future.”

Jody Egginton (Technical Director)

“We need to go through this weekend thoroughly. Yuki’s strategy didn’t go as we wanted and that made the race difficult for him. Daniel’s race pace was reasonable and he was able to keep up with the cars around him. However, today’s race confirmed that there is now virtually no difference in race pace between the teams in the front midfield. As well as implementing our planned aerodynamic developments, we need to focus on getting more out of our cars in qualifying and the early laps of the race, as both aspects of the weekend are crucial to maximise opportunities in the final stages of the race. With Monza next week, we will focus on addressing the key points of this weekend to be as prepared as possible and get everything possible out of it.”

Laurent Mekies (Team Principal)

“Obviously we wanted to start the second part of the season with a better performance than today. From qualifying onwards it was clear that we were lacking some power compared to our closest rivals and a drop in power of just a tenth or so makes the difference between being able to fight in the top 10 or not. We tried a few things in the race to make up some positions and took a bit of a risk by sending Yuki on a two-stop but that obviously didn’t work and he was stuck in traffic for most of the race. Daniel tried well all race to keep up with the Astons at the front and drove a strong, consistent race but that wasn’t enough to score points today. It wasn’t the smoothest weekend for us but one that we will certainly learn from as a team and we will come back stronger. Overall, we are well aware that we need to make our car faster to continue to fight at the front of the extremely tight midfield and everyone is going full throttle in Faenza and Bicester to make further developments to the car soon.”
