Dyson launches innovative new hair care line

When Dyson entered the beauty space in 2016 with its revolutionary hairdryer, the world definitely took notice. And now that its iconic hair tools have become a staple in salons and bathrooms around the world, the brand has made its first foray into hair styling products, much to the delight of consumers. Stylists are also raving about the new range, pointing out that it greatly simplifies routines, delivers impressively long-lasting results, and is suitable for a range of textures.

The brand new Chitosan line consists of two products. The first – and perhaps the one that is currently generating the most hype – is the Chitosan Pre-Styling Hair Cream for flexible hold.

It’s a revolutionary pre-styling cream that’s applied to wet hair before heat styling to provide soft, long-lasting hold. What’s especially cool is that it’s available in different formulas depending on your hair type, including straight to wavy (light care), straight to wavy (intense care), curly to frizzy (light care) and curly to frizzy (intense care).

“To get the results you get with one of the pre-stylers, you would normally need a whole bunch of other products,” says stylist Courtney Warda, owner of Haus of Hndsm in Sola Salons. “No frizz, the perfect shine and a touchable hold that really lasts? Name me one product that can do all of that… I’ll wait.”

The second product – Chitosan Post-Styling Hair Serum for Hold & Style Extending – is a post-styling serum that defines hair and gives it a shiny, silky finish. It is intended for use on dry, already styled hair and is suitable for all hair textures and types.

How the products work

The line is named after the main ingredient, chitosan, which is extracted from the cell walls of oyster mushrooms. Um, what do mushrooms do in your hair care? Well, they’re not just there for a thrilling moment. The brand explains that the ingredient is responsible for the mushroom’s puffy, cloud-like shape, structure and strength, and the goal was to provide the same for hair.

In addition to chitosan, the brand’s products also contain complex polymers as opposed to the simple polymers often found in products and triangular bonds. This allows for maximum flexibility, softness and longer lasting hold as opposed to a crunchy texture and a hairstyle that goes flat at the slightest humidity.

“Dyson has considered all hair types when developing this line – straight, wavy, curly and frizzy – and each pre-styler is carefully crafted for each of us,” says Warda. “As a curly girl myself, I appreciate what this line does for my hair and the hair of my clients.”

The new haircare products have been developed over the past five years, the Real Simple brand tells us, and are designed to work with Dyson machines. (You can still use them with other styling tools, though.) The line follows its motto, which is to simplify haircare routines, deliver great results, and minimize damage in the process.
